What might be a programming mistake is that all "+X Damage", after being calculated together, gets reduced by monster armor separately to your normal strike, instantly making item effects of this kind near useless. Adding a new element this way will allow these above attacks to inflict the corresponding elemental status effect because they didn't deal damage in that element already (poison, freeze, shock, and fire). They actually work by applying that listed total every time you hit an enemy with an autoattack or effects-inheriting Weapon-Based Skill, regardless of what elements you were even going to hit for.Įxample: if I have an exclusively Physical axe, and a +20 Fire gem and a +20 Physical gem, then I will deal the normal damage of the axe, then the +20 Physical, and the +20 Fire too. They don't increase your power of that element. (by the way, every effect that boosts your attack speed does make your WeaponDPS skills stronger) Getting a DPS increase from items or passives with this effect shows an increase in DPS on the arcane statistics page, but does NOT boost the base damage for your WeaponDPS skills!! Only the minor +X damage is received. All "+X _ Damage" coming from your items or passives will only affect autoattacks, and Weapon-Based Skills. Basically, if it comes from your item or passive skill, then it sucks at actually doing damage, get something else. The really complicated thing about damage is how "+X _ Damage" stuff works. Useless if you're running a Focus build that doesn't even use Weapon-Based Skills though. ![]() Easily one of the best gems you can put on your weapon, period. ![]() Putting multiple bleed gems and is a very good idea. ![]() The stack-per-hit might even have been a programming mistake in making them because of how nice it is. TL DR: DoT gems are crazy good because they stack with each hit (and gem). They only work on autoattacks, and Weapon-Based Skills that do inherit effects like that.ĭoT skills function the same way, except that they don't stack per hit, it just renews the timer instead, so they're instantly much worse. Never apply poison/freeze/shock/fire, never crit. Scale with the Focus bonus (even Physical damage). STACK PER HIT, mouse over the icon on the enemy's healthbar to check the damage.
